Mixed 7.0A
NorCal Champions
by Barby Pickett, Captain
After completing the regular season as the #1 team in the local section,
and also #1 across all NorCal sections, the FCTC Mixed 7.0A team advanced
from the Local Playoffs to the District Playoffs at, April 25 . 27 and
WON. In three consecutive days of play, we dropped only four sets to
build a 3-0 undefeated record.
Our team of family and youth prevailed through District playoffs moving
on to Alameda where we played the best of the District winners in the
Sectional playoffs June 7th and 8th at Harbor Bay tennis club. Sectional
playoffs are the next step towards Nationals. The competition continued
to increase and our team was ready for the challenge. Our captain had
organized weekly practices and scrimmages with other bay area players
to sharpen our skills.
On June 10, 2008 WE WON SECTIONAL PLAYOFFS TOO, and we now represent
Northern California in the National competition at Gold River tennis
club in Sacramento.
The upcoming news release written about our team tells the story:
Five teams from the Northern
California Section of the United States Tennis Association advanced

Captain Craig Quan has assembled an awesome team and we're on our way
to playoffs.
With ten wins and only one blemish, we're hoping for home court advantage
so our fellow FCTC members can watch our teammates in the playoffs.
Come support our heavy hitting top spinners and slicers.
See you on the courts.

M3.5B Team
Battle For Playoffs
by Jake Karmendy, Co-Captain
With one regular season match left to playof
this writing, the Men's 3.5B team is on the brink of making it into
Local Playoffs. The playoff picture is murky with 5 teams slugging it
out for 4 berths in Upper Peninsula's Flight 1. The team, captained
by Mike Sing and co-captain Jake Karmendy, needs one more victory to
seal the deal, then hope for improved seeding if other matches work
out favorably.
The team has gotten solid play up and down the line-up, which includes
past members Ed Cruz, Martin Uiberlacker, Tony Lolong, Mitch Tom, Victor
Luscap, Win Reis and James Kiehl. New team members have added depth
and strength: singles specialists Mihai Visan, Henry Mok and Derek Dai,
and doubles dynamos Alex and JuniorLopez, Alex Ehlgen, David Garcia-Shelton,
Alan Ting, Ross Weir and Jason Lee.

W3.5A Team
(Foster City Hot Shots)
by Lisa Chang, Captain
The team started the year losing some players
who were moved up to the 4.0 level. Lucky for us, we managed to get
some new members who helped round out our team and brought in some close
wins this year: Haruko Kurata (welcome back!!!), Cathy Chang, Hanming
Chen, Jennifer Jung, and Karen Park. Returning team members who are
the foundation of my team (who I depend on and am thankful for their
loyalty every year) are: Naomi Bigliardi, Nina DeToth, Linda Difuntorum,
Joan Holland, Lori Horn, Jackie James, Nancy Kane, Betty Lam, Shaun
Lenihan, Mieko Oiwa, Kathy Rudovsky, Greta Rzepski, Lisa Steiny, and
Georgianna Waters.
We have been challenged this year with availability, injuries, windy
environments, hot days, cold nights, and whatever you can think of....
but the team has persevered and they have all contributed tremendously
to our team wins which leaves us currently in first place at this juncture
of the league season.
Keep up the good work, Ladies!!!!
