Fifty Mixed 7.0 Team
by Barby Pickett & Jake Karmendy, Proud 50 MX 7.0 Captain
We are proud to announce that the fifty mixed 7.0 team is currently in first place (with a 7-1 record) and has a confirmed spot in the local playoffs commencing the weekend of 7/28 - 7/29.
The exciting part of this team is that we just met and have been only playing together for a few months. We look forward to competing in the playoffs and possibly moving on to the District playoffs in Napa. For the first time ever, winners of the District playoffs will have a Sectionals playoff opportunity in Medofrd, OR.
Go Team!!!

Men's 3.5B: Next Stop: Local Playoffs
by Jake Karmendy, Co-Captain
Finishing the regular season in second place with a 13-2 mark, one of the Club's M.35B teams has made it to next weekend's first round of local play-offs. Captained by Mike Sing and Jake Karmendy this team is made up of primarily of guys who played on Mike's and Jake's two very successful teams from last year ... at least the ones who didn't get bumped up to 4.0.
Singles excellence has been the hallmark of this team. Paced by Brian Fisher, Mitch Bakos, Fred DeSauvage and Kevin Knoble, the team's lone wolves won 25 of 30 matches. But we also had some depth as several of our top doubles players also won in singles -- these are the guys who "go both way": Byron Higgins, James Kiehl and Martin Uiberlacker.
We weren't exactly bums in doubles either, winning 76% of our paired matches. Thanks to Derrick Chua, Ed Cruz, Ravi Mohan, Mitch Tom, Chuck Lumia, Wil Dang, Tony Durfor, Tony Lolong, Victor Luscap and Ben Asaro.
The team's post-season road will be challenging. We are likely to face both of the teams who beat us during the regular season. But it wouldn't be any fun otherwise.

Men's Super Senior 65B Team
by Ed Weiss, Captain
The "B" team did great! We had a fantastic season -- we went to Sectionals! Oops, sorry, that was last year. Because we did so well last year, NorCal promoted more than half of the team to 3.5 so we had to play Super Seniors 65 at the 7.0 level.
Our league this season was comprised of four teams - the San Mateo Elks, Orange Park and the other team from Foster City - on the northern end of the Peninsula. The Elks and the Orange Park teams were made up of 4.0's on their way down, the guys on the other FC team are 3.5's and holding and half of us were 3.0's and the other half were 3.0's who were blessed by USTA NorCal and elevated to 3.5.
The highlight of the season was the match when David (Weyman Wong and Richard - newly wed - Mar) whipped Goliath (Tom Pang and his partner). Everyone (including most of the guys on the Elks team) thought that Tom was unbeatable -- they were wrong!
We had fun. We played against some interesting competition and got several free tennis lessons. We had some good beer. We had a few laughs. Most importantly, we had a perfect record: 12-0 (losses and wins).
Thanks, guys, for stepping up to the challenge and trying at the advanced level. Our roster consisted of only ten people; almost all of them were ready to play almost every match. Check your rating when they are published in December and if it isn't 3.0, file a grievance! A special thanks to my co-captain, Ken Miskow, for all of his efforts throughout the season, I was out of town for some of the matches and took charge.
We will be back at our regular level - 3.0 - next year and ready to go!
