Tennis Courts Maintenance Update
February 4, 2012

Boothbay Park
– City Park Crews are currently working on an irrigation valve replacement at the problem area of the tennis courts.  A new irrigation valve has been installed and piping adhesives will need to cure for a couple of days. Also, irrigation piping will need to be flushed of all sediment prior to operation. This repair will be completed on or before Tuesday, 1/31/12.

Edgewater Park – The asphalt surface on courts #1 and #2 have been completed (laid and leveled).  On Monday, February 6, white playing lines will be installed on the courts and the courts will be open for play on Tuesday, February 7, weather permitting.  Just be a little careful on the courts, as the asphalt is not completely smoothed out.  In the Spring, March or April, resurfacing with colors will be done with a work process time-line of about a week before playability.

Shell Courts – The court benches have been locked to the fence to keep skateboarders from abusing the benches and courts.  The City Teen Center Staff are aware of the issue and will keep an eye on the courts.  We encourage our members to contact the police of after-hours vandalism.  The current minor damage on the courts will be repainted in the Spring.

Tennis Straps - The FCTC has purchased and installed two new center straps for courts #3 and #4 at the Boothbay tennis courts.   This donation is in the spirit of our strong ongoing partnership with the City!   The FCTC will continue to work with the City to provide the best tennis experience for our members and the public.

Surrounding Trees – The Parks Division is currently reviewing the configurations and the growth of the trees that surround our tennis courts.  We will be investigating what can be done to lessen the impact of trees on the courts.
